I-90/Lincoln Co. to BNSF RR Bridge - Roadside Safety (I-90 MP 255.00 to MP 270.10)
Work is expected to start on Monday, April 12.
Inside lane closures at east end of project. Outside shoulder closures at west end of project.

2021 Eastern Region Chip Seal
Highway: Various Region: Eastern
Description: Construction of Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST), removing existing overlay from bridge decks, bridge deck repair, waterproof membrane, planing bituminous pavement, crack sealing, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) for pavement repair, pre-level. Crushed Surfacing Base Course (CSBC), Crushed Surfacing Top Course (CSTC), centerline rumble strips, fog seal, pavement markings, guardrail, guideposts, traffic control.

Adams

SR 261 - McElroy Coulee Crossing Replace Drainage Structure
Highway:
SR 261 Region: Eastern County: Adams Location: MP 57.70 to 57.75
Description: Improvement of SR 261 by removing an existing concrete bridge, constructing a new 4-sided split box culvert bridge, constructing and removing a detour roadway including a temporary culvert, HMA paving and striping, installing beam guardrail and flexible guideposts, and temporary traffic control.

  • Progress w/o 4/12: Traffic has been shifted over to the one-lane temp detour and the existing structure has been removed.  Box culvert has been placed. Paving of mainline took place on April 6 and new roadway anticipated to be open to traffic late April 9. Detour will then be removed.
  • Work Schedule: Work is scheduled Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I-90 - Geiger Road Interchange Reconstruction (MP 277.26)
Highway: I-90 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 277.26
Description: Improvement of I-90/Geiger Field Interchange/Exit 276. This work includes earthwork, roadway excavation and embankment, drainage, wetlands, CSBC, paving with HMA, illumination, ITS, erosion control plantings, cement curb and sidewalk, pavement markings, permanent signing, and traffic control.

  • Work Schedule w/o 4/12: Work is scheduled to begin on April 12. The eastbound loop ramp will be permanently closed starting the week of April 12. A detour will be in place to direct northbound Grove Road traffic to westbound I-90. A detour will also be in place for all traffic exiting I-90 on the westbound offramp heading towards south Grove Rd.

I-90 - Medical Lake/SR 902 Interchange Improvements (MP 272.81)
Highway: I-90/SR 902 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 272.81
Description: Reconstruction of the intersections at the eastbound and westbound ramp terminals. This will replace the current intersections with roundabouts. Replacement and relocation of the intersection of SR 902 and Geiger Blvd. with a roundabout. Construction of a new bridge structure parallel to the existing overpass at I-90.

  • Progress: The bridge deck is complete. The barrier has been formed and poured. Work on the north and westbound ramp roundabouts is complete. The eastbound ramp roundabout is complete with the exception of the SB lanes coming off of the new bridge. The new bridge remains closed and a temporary lane configuration is being used on the existing bridge between the eastbound and westbound ramps.
  • Work Schedule w/o 4/12: All ramps and roundabouts are open to traffic. The contractor will be performing finish work and painting of the bridge over the next three weeks. Planting within the eastbound onramp infield is ongoing. Shoulder work for the new connection of the westbound offramp at I-90 is ongoing. Paving and grinding of the westbound offramp and the approach to the new bridge is scheduled for the next two weeks. A full closure of the westbound offramp is tentatively scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday April 16 through Sunday April 18. Directional I-90 lane closures are scheduled for April 9 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. A single lane closure of I-90 westbound is tentatively scheduled for April 17.

I-90 - Lincoln Co. to BNSF RR Bridge - Roadside safety

Description: Grading and excavation in the median. Rock Removal and installation of concrete barrier and guardrail.

  • Progress: Colored precast concrete barrier is being fabricated over the winter months.
  • Work Schedule w/o 4/12:  Rework mainline slopes, embankment, grading. Mainline bridge - weld ballast pan, sandblast pier walls. ESL bridge - waterproofing. Installing fence.  Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Wellesley closed.

I-90 - Tokio Rd. to Lincoln Co. Line - Paving

Description: This project improves 7.29 miles of I-90 by planing bituminous pavement, pavement repair, paving with Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), guideposts, pavement markings, rumble strips, and traffic control.

  • Work Schedule:  Work is scheduled to begin on approximately July 12, 2021. The project is expected to be completed in approximately 50 working days.

I-90 - Sprague Ave I/C to Argonne Rd I/C - Paving

Description: Rehabilitates 4.3 miles of the existing asphalt pavement by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes.  Expansion joint modification, spall repair, crack and joint sealing, HMA paving, inlet protection, erosion/water pollution control, remove/reset concrete barrier, adjust manholes & catch basins, grate risers, guideposts, pavement marking, traffic control, and bridge deck rut repair.

  • Progress: RCS joint failure requires the removal and replacement to take place once the contractor can secure material and schedule. 
  • Work Schedule: Repair of bridge expansion joints will be conducted in Spring 2021.

I-90 - US 2 Garden Springs to Broadway Ave - Ramp Meters (MP 279.79 to 282.54)

Description: This project improves various I-90 ramps by furnishing and installing: ITS ramp meters and other ITS components, constructing foundations for ITS standards, pavement markings, permanent signing, bridge-mounted sign brackets, traffic curb, concrete barrier, guardrail and guardrail anchors, irrigation system repairs, seeding and fertilizing.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/NSC Spokane River to Columbia (MP 159.05 - 161.16)

Description: This project constructs two prestressed concrete girder bridges, two weathering steel plate girder bridges, including grading, excavation, embankment, concrete retaining walls, noise walls and barrier, PCCP, HMA, stormwater, and drainage, curbing, guardrail, fencing, concrete barrier, sidewalks, illumination, ITS, signing and pavement markings.

SR 290 Spokane River E. Trent Bridge - Replace Bridge (MP 0.74 to 0.95)

SR 290 - City of Spokane Valley - SR 290/Barker Road BNSF Grade Separation

Description: Improvement of Barker Road and SR 290 (Trent Avenue) Interchange. This work includes earthwork, roadway excavation and embankment, rock excavation, draining, paving with HMA, illumination, franchise utility relocation and installation, erosion control, seeding, cement concrete curb, sidewalk, pavement markings, permanent signing, traffic control, and one prestressed concrete bridge.

  • Progress: Project has started. Work includes clearing and grubbing the area north of SR 290 (Trent).  Barker Road is closed at the Trent intersection.  Wellesley Ave is closed in both directions between Trent and Campbell Road. Trent is one lane in each direction through the work zone.  Construction Signage is in place. There was a large area of fill that could not be built on due to the amount of organic material mixed with the soil.  This area was excavated and moved to an area outside of the roadway prism. The Contractor has begun the ditch excavation and the roadway embankment on the north side of Trent. This will be the area of the new roundabout. Utility location throughout the project will continue as needed.
  • Work Schedule w/o 4/12: The Contractor is currently surveying the area for construction staking.  Utility locations are being verified. The Contractor is working to build roadway grade on the north side of Trent. High visibility fence will continue on the south side of the tracks.

Whitman

PCC Railroad Structure Rehabilitation and Replacement
Highway: Near US 195 Region: Eastern County: Spokane & Whitman 
Description: Rehabilitate bridges at MP 10.5 & 28.4, replace bridge at MP 29.48 and replace bridge at MP 23.89 with a culvert. This project involves roadway excavation, embankment compaction, scour repair and temporary stream diversion, driving steel piles, timber stringers, railroad ballast, treated timber superstructure and steel superstructure.

  • Progress: Seeding pushed out, punchlist.
  • Work Schedule w/o 4/12: Monday - Friday, 10 hours per day. The track bridge shut down will not affect vehicular traffic.

Washington State Rural Rail Rehabilitation

Highway: Near SR 26, US 2, US 195 Region: Eastern County: Lincoln & Whitman Location: Hooper Branch MP 41.00 – 58.00, CW Branch MP 10.00 – 39.00, P&L Branch MP 12.00 – 29.28
Description: Improves three branches of the PCC Railway System. The Hooper Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, ditching, surfacing turnouts, and crossing rehabilitation. The CW Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, rail and OTM replacement, rehabilitation, and replacement of turnouts and crossings. The P&L Branch consists of replacing ties, placing ballast, surfacing, replace crossing and surfacing turnouts, rehabilitation of two timber structures, and replacing eight structures.

  • Work Schedule w/o 4/12: Project under winter suspension. The track is open. Punchlist. Resume bridge work in July 2021 when HPA allows.
