2019 Eastern Region Chip Seal
Highway: SR 20, 26 Region: Eastern County: Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Adams, and Whitman 
Description: Crack seal, prelevel areas, pavement repair areas, bridge deck repair, rumble strips, and guardrail.

  • Work Schedule: Mon - Fri; 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
    • SR 20 - Republic to US 395 (MP 302 - 342.08) - Section complete.
    • SR 20 - Narcisse Rd. to Spruce Canyon Rd. (MP 363.61 - 372.84) - Section complete.
    • SR 20 - South Fork Mill Creek Rd. to Tiger (MP 379.16 - 390.41) - If the weather cooperates will be complete Sept. 20. Drivers should be alert for flaggers and or pilot cars directing single-lane, alternating traffic with some delays.
    • SR 26 - Washtucna to LaCrosse Airport Rd. (MP 83.15 - 102.76) - Section complete.
    • SR 26 - Dusty to Colfax (MP 116.74 - 133.53) - Section complete.
    • SR 21 - Keller Ferry to Republic (MP 140 - 152) - Fog sealing Sept. 20. This section is a repair to work that happened in 2018. Drivers should be alert for flaggers and or pilot cars directing single-lane, alternating traffic with some delays.

2019 - 2021 Eastern Regionwide Basic Safety - Guardrail
Description: Repairing and upgrading guardrail components. Removing re-directional landforms and installing the concrete barrier.

  • Work Schedule: Guardrail work is currently on I-90 and US 2. Mon - Fri 6 am to 6 pm. Possible single lane or shoulder closures in the vicinity of each location.

Regionwide Pavement Preservation
Description: Grind and inlay new pavement around the region.

Adams

I-90 - SR 21 to Ritzville - Paving (MP 208.16 to MP 218.60)
Highway:

Description: Restores 9.9 miles of the existing asphalt pavement by grinding and place 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes and shoulders. A reduced speed limit of 60 mph will be implemented during construction and enforced day and night. until completion in June.

  • Work Schedule: Minor cleanup items remain. Seeding of pit and project area on hold until seeding window on October 1. No traffic impacts.

I-90 - Danekas Rd. Undercrossing - Bridge Repair (MP 231.23 to 231.25)
Highway:
 I-90 Region: Eastern County: Adams Location: MP 231.23 to 231.25
Description: Replaces damaged span of Bridge No. 90/332 (Tokio interchange) over westbound I-90.

  • Work Schedule: Project beings on September 30. There will be HIGH IMPACTS on westbound I-90 and drivers trying to travel over the Danekas structure. The structure over I-90 connecting Danekas and Durry Roads will be closed. Traffic will be detoured via Danekas Rd. to the Schoessler Road interchange west of the Danekas Road interchange.
    • Two 36-hour closures of I-90 - Traffic will be detoured onto the westbound off-ramp, through the Danekas Rd. intersection, and to the westbound on-ramp back to I-90.
      • 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 to 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 - Demolition of the bridge structure
      • 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 to 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct 17 - Placing the new girders

Ferry

Keller Ferry Terminal and Pontoon Replacement North and South (MP 106.65 to 106.67)
Highway: SR 21 Region: Eastern County: Lincoln and Ferry Location: MP 106.65 to 106.67
Description: Construction to take place at the north and south Keller Ferry Terminals. Work will include replacing pontoons, decking, railing, and anchors.

  • Work Schedule: Planned shutdown to start for 16 days starting Sept. 16. lasting through Oct. 2. Drivers will need to find alternate routes during ferry closure. Electrical conduit and wiring, install vessel and shore aprons, remove and relocate electrical panels and cabinets, coat vessel and shore apron, welding, install wingwalls and touch up paint.

SR 21 - West Fork Sanpoil Bridge Replace Structure (MP 145.6)
Highway: SR 21 Region: Eastern County: Ferry Location: MP 145.6
Description: Earthwork, removing and relocating the temporary Bailey Bridge, removing the existing bridge and installing a new bridge with wing walls, paving with HMA, stream channel excavation and in water stream work, rock and boulder placing, woody material placing and other items.

  • Work Schedule: In-stream work is near completion this week. The contractor has moved to the south side of the structure to begin drilling at that location. Shafts are 5ft wide by 70ft deep. Concrete was placed in the two drilled shafts on the north side of the stream last week. North shafts are complete and the contractor began forming the pier caps. The bypass road and moving of the WWII Bailey bridge has been completed. Stream work will continue.

Lincoln

US 2 - Reardan to Espanola Rd. - Paving (MP 263.45 to 271.02)

Description: Restores 7.6 miles of existing asphalt pavement by grinding and placing 0.15 foot depth of asphalt on the driving lanes.

  • Work Schedule: The project engineer office has reviewed the surface smoothness testing and determined locations for corrective action. Waiting for contractor to schedule work.

Pend Oreille

SR 41/BNSF-POVRR Railroad Bridge (MP 38)
Highway: SR 41 Region: Eastern County: Pend Oreille Location: MP 38
Description: Replace the bridge over the railroad tracks just south of Newport, Washington, and Oldtown, Idaho. This bridge is jointly owned by the Idaho Transportation Department and WSDOT. This is an Idaho Transportation Department project.

  • Work Schedule: Construction has been going on since April. One lane will typically remain open in each direction over the bridge, though brief lane reductions may be necessary. Concrete for the northbound lane will be placed the second week in September. The approaches to the bridge will be added the last week of September. The new bridge is planned for completion in mid-October.

Spokane

2nd Ave W Bridge and 3rd Ave Bridge WB On-Ramps (I-90 MP 0.18 - 0.41 and SR 290 EW Ramp MP 0.03 to 0.26 )
Highway: I-90/SR 290 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: I-90 Ramp MP 0.18 to 0.41 and SR 290 EW Ramp MP 0.03 to 0.26
Description: Planing, pavement repair, paving, bridge deck repair, and safety improvements.

  • Work Schedule: All ramps are now open to traffic as of Thursday, August 8. No impacts to traffic. Oversize restrictions have been removed. Work is complete.

I-90 Medical Lake/SR 902 Interchange Improvements (MP 272.81)
Highway: I-90/SR 902 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: MP 272.81
Description: Reconstruction of the intersections at the eastbound and westbound ramp terminals. This will replace the current intersections with roundabouts. Replacement and relocation of the intersection of SR 902 and Geiger Blvd. with a roundabout. Construction of a new bridge structure parallel to the existing overpass at I-90.

  • Work Schedule: A 10 day closure is being planned for construction of the roundabout at the westbound I-90 on and off ramps and SR 902 intersection. The closure will occur between Sept. 30 and Oct. 9. Paving of the north roundabout began on Wednesday and will continue for six days. Single lane closures will occur on Geiger Blvd. and SR 902 where the new roadways tie in. Earthwork on the bridge approach will continue. Electrical work at the westbound roundabout is ongoing. Construction on the wingwalls and abutments on the bridge are being constructed. A temporary speed limit reduction of I-90 of 70 mph to 60 mph will go into effect Wednesday, July 31 from MP 272.30 to MP 273.35 throughout the duration of the project.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/Freya Structures (MP 162)
Highway: US 395 Region: Eastern County: Spokane Location: NSC MP 162
Description: Construct two mainline freeway bridges over Freya Street.

  • Work Schedule: Concrete finish work under both bridges and on each wall. Minor delays are possible when passing under the structures on Freya Street. Additional punchlist items are being addressed including pavement grinding to create a smoother ride. Erosion control measures are also included as needed.

North Spokane Corridor-US 395/Columbia to Freya (MP 161.1 to 162.3)

Description: Construct mainline NSC from Freya to Columbia. Contaminated material has been excavated on the north end of the project and samples are waiting for final test results. Minor drainage work. Erosion control work as needed.

  • Work Schedule: Minimal concrete paving remains. The rebar subcontractor is working to complete the traffic barrier between the bike path and southbound BNSF structure at the south end of the project. Crews will continue contaminated material excavation and curbing is being installed as well as shoulder rock and guardrail.

PV Hooper Track Improvements
