Ferries - Seattle Multimodal Terminal at Colman Dock Project

Project news

  • Starting Monday, Oct. 5 the Marion Street vehicle ­­exit will close through late summer 2021. All vehicles and bikes exiting Colman Dock will exit through Yesler Way, which may cause delays off-loading ferries during peak times. There will be no changes or impacts to people walking on the ferry.
  • Bremerton drive-on passengers will continue to use Slip 3. Bainbridge drive-on passengers will continue to use Slip 1. 

Ferries - Mukilteo Multimodal Terminal Project

  • Work continues on the new terminal, holding lanes, tollboths, transit center, and First Street.
  • Our marine contractor left the site, as scheduled in March, and will return when the next fish window opens this August.

Ferries - Olympic Class (144-Car) Ferries

Project news

  • Funding for a fifth Olympic Class ferry that will be the first in the fleet to run on hybrid-electric propulsion was approved by the legislature and signed by the governor in spring 2019.
  • Suquamish entered service on the Mukilteo/Clinton route on Oct. 4, 2018.
  • WSF officially accepted the fourth Olympic Class ferry, Suquamish, from ship builder Vigor on Thursday, July 26. A community celebration was held aboard the vessel on Sept. 22, 2018.

I-405 - NE 132nd St. Interchange Improvements

Preliminary engineering for this project began in July 2017.
 

Overview
The Washington State Department of Transportation will construct a new on-ramp to northbound I-405 and a new off-ramp from southbound I-405 at Northeast 132nd Street in Kirkland. This type of interchange is known as a half-diamond.

SR 522 - Paradise Lake Road to Snohomish River Widening

Project news

  • Design and right-of-way acquisition funding for this project, along with the Paradise Lake Road interchange improvement project, has been advanced by the Legislature.
  • WSDOT received $12.8 million in state funds in the 2019-2021 biennium. The $10 million in Connecting Washington funding will now be available in 2021-2023.

Growth in the Federal Way area has increased traffic in the I-5/SR 18/SR 161 triangle beyond what the original interchange was designed to handle. About 293,000 vehicles use these three highways in this area each day. Frequent backups, particularly during peak travel times, are common.

SR 509 Completion Project

  • WSDOT joined with Sound Transit to build the first stage of the SR 509 Completion Project within the Federal Way Link Extension project. The partnership reduces the impacts of major construction by building both projects at the same time.
