Two virtual public events are scheduled for March 2 to share information about the benefits of this project and the traffic control schedule during construction this spring, as well as an opportunity for the public to ask questions.  There is no need to pre-register for either of these events.

Second Bremerton ferry returns to service Sunday

SEATTLE – Starting Sunday, Oct. 25, Washington State Ferries will restore daily two-boat service on the Seattle/Bremerton route. The run has been operating without one of its normal two vessels since March 29 due to the pandemic.

Reopening of North Cascades Highway near Rockport on track for early August

ROCKPORT – Contractor crews are stabilizing the slope above State Route 20 and on track to reopen the highway near Rockport early next month.

Rock removal, hillside stabilization begins on North Cascades Highway near Rockport

Clean-up and repair work of series of rockslides blocking both lanes on State Route 20/North Cascades Highway begins Monday, June 29, and will require the existing detour to remain in place until further notice. There are exceptions for emergency vehicles.

This project was completed on Thursday, June 25  A seperate project to address rock slopes at Knapps Hill tunnel began June 15 and is expect to be complete by Friday, July 3.  That section of roadway remains closed between milepost 223- 230, but access between Entiat and Chelan in SR 971 available.

US 2 - Stevens Pass Eastside Paving

Project news

Work began Monday, June 15 at the east of the project (milepost 78.63), with shoulder closures and intermittent flagger controlled traffic with short delays.  The contractor is working west on roadway repairs and preparation, and then will turn around and move east to complete the paving work.  Work is scheduled Monday through Friday during daylight hours and will require flagger controlled traffic with pilot car and delays. 

This project was awarded to Interstate Concrete & Asphalt Company on November 26, 2019.

SR 20 North Cascades Highway clearing starts March 23

After assessing snow levels in dozens of avalanche chutes, some stretching more than 2,000 feet above the highway, Washington State Department of Transportation crews will start clearing the State Route 20 North Cascades Highway Monday, March 23.
