Beginning the week of Monday, June 14, geotech engineers will assess the condition of a crumbling wall that forced an early closure of State Route 542/Mount Baker Highway late last fall. This will help determine when the road may fully reopen to Artists Point.

In April a virtual public meeting was held to to share information about the intersection improvements, which will include a multi-lane roundabout, transit pull out lanes, and multimodal improvements.  More public outreach is planned on this project.

This project is currently at 30% design, meaning the project footprint and initial design have been finalized.

Beginning Monday, July 19 through Thursday, July 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., expect single lane closures and slow downs while the contractor completes miscellaneous clean up work and tests bridge joints. 

Updates on the partial closure will be made available through the WSDOT travel alert map, travel advisories, and on social media.

On December 28, 2020, Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. of Moses Lake was awarded the contract with a low bid of $3,068,000.
