Travel on Eastern Washington highways will continue to be challenging as extraordinary winter conditions keep road crews working around the clock, performing under great pressure to battle drifting snow and road closures. The Washington State Department of Transportation is asking for help from the public to drive for the conditions, obey road closure signs, and give maintenance vehicles enough room to work safely.

The project updates and repairs existing safety features currently in place along several routes in Eastern Washington. Guardrail will be raised and upgraded, redirectional landforms around bridge piers will be removed and replaced with a barrier. Guardrail end treatments will be upgraded to new crashworthy terminals. Guardrail work will occur on eight different state routes, highways, and interstates throughout the Eastern Region over the next three years.

The new bridge on SR 21 crossing the West Fork Sanpoil River is now open to traffic. On Oct. 15, a small group, following the Governor's Safe Start Plan, celebrated the opening of the new bridge with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The terminal and pontoon replacement has been completed.

This project will replace severely corroded pontoons of the terminals on both sides of the river. This project is located on SR 21 at the Keller Ferry Terminals in Lincoln and Ferry Counties. This project replaces pontoons, decking, railing, and anchors.
