SR 520 - 148th Ave NE Interchange - Overlake Access Ramp - Roundabout

One of the changes for the new access ramp includes a roundabout. Roundabouts reduce the frequency and severity of crashes by lowering speeds. It will also reduce travel times by creating continuous traffic flow, minimizing backups. The roundabout offers drivers the option of going south towards Northeast 24th Street, or north to the Overlake Village Link light rail station and 152nd Avenue Northeast.

South toward Northeast 24th Street

  • At the roundabout, vehicles can continue eastbound by staying in the outer travel lane and taking the first exit to Northeast Hopper Street.
  • From Northeast Hopper Street, vehicles can turn right onto 151st Avenue Northeast and travel south to Northeast 24th Street.
  • The intersection of 151st Avenue Northeast and Northeast 24th Street will not change. Vehicles will still be able to continue straight through this intersection or make right or left turns.

North toward the Overlake Village Link light rail station

  • At the roundabout, vehicles in the inner travel lane can take the second (northbound) exit onto Lumiere Avenue Northeast, which turns into Northeast Shen Street.
  • From Northeast Shen Street, vehicles will then take the new Plaza Street to reach the Overlake Village Link light rail station.
  • At the intersection of Northeast Shen Street and 152nd Avenue Northeast, vehicles will be able to continue straight through the intersection or make right or left turns.

This video showcases how traffic would use the roundabout.
