In December 2017, a landslide closed State Route 4, west of Germany Creek near Stella. Due to the threat of additional slide activity and to keep traffic moving through the area, crews installed shipping containers on one lane of the highway.
In Summer 2018, crews excavated the slope and stabilize the hillside. They also replaced a damaged section of debris flow fence at the base of the hillside and removed some trees.
This project is designed to prevent future landslides and road closures to provide a safer section of highway.
August 2018: Construction began.
October 2018: Construction was complete.
This project is estimated to cost $1.9 million.
