SR 28 - 35th Street - Roundabout and Access Control

Project news

This project will construct a single lane roundabout at SR 28 and 35th St. and modify the intersection of US 2/97 and Cascade Ave. to restrict right turns onto eastbound US2/97 from northbound Cascade Ave.  Construction is scheduled for 2020 and an open house will be held on Oct. 30.  A detour will be in place during construction.

Needs & Benefits

The roundabout will improve safety and mobility by allowing users on 35th St. to make an easier turn onto SR 28 (also known as “Sunset Highway”), significantly reducing delays and the potential for serious collisions.  The roundabout will provide a reduction in all types of collisions over the existing configuration. This intersection project will improve the local road network and serve as the primary access to the proposed Wenatchi Landing Subarea development.

Vehicles that take a right turn from Cascade Ave. onto US 2/97 and attempt to cross lanes to continue north on US 2/97 come into conflict with eastbound traffic.  Changes to the intersection of US 2/97 will reduce the conflicts of traffic entering US 2/97 from Cascade Ave.  A cul-de-sac will be installed at the end of the northbound lane of Cascade Ave. at the intersection with the highway.  The southbound exit from US 2/97 onto Cascade Ave. will be maintained.

An open house for this project will be held at the WSDOT North Central Regional Office at 2830 Euclid Avenue on Wednesday, October 30 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The project will be advertised to bid this winter and construction will begin Spring 2020, with project completion planned for Fall 2020.

This project is estimated at $3,145,000 and is funded through the 2005 Transportation Partnership Program (TPA).
