In 2020, WSDOT will spend $2 million to replace aging concrete barriers separating eastbound and westbound travelers on State Route 18 between Weyerhauser Way South and SR 164 in Auburn.
More than 100,000 drivers use this section of State Route 18 every day. The barrier currently separating the eastbound and westbound lanes has outlived its useful life. Many barrier bases and connective parts are broken or rusted. Broken pieces could present a hazard in the event of a major collision. The new barriers meet current crash testing criteria.
This project is estimated to cost $2 million. Funding will come from federal and state sources.
