I-90 - SR 18 Interchange Improvements - Community engagement

WSDOT is conducting a thorough and extensive community outreach effort throughout the environmental and design phase of this project.  In summer and fall 2018, the project team hosted booths at fairs and festivals and conducted stakeholder interviews. Outreach continues through a series of advisory meetings, community briefings and future open houses.

A key goal during the construction phase will be to keep communities and neighborhoods informed about upcoming work and how construction will affect the area. Everyone who uses this interchange or lives in the nearby area are encouraged to attend open houses and share feedback with WSDOT through email, social media, phone calls, and in person.

Stakeholder Advisory Group

WSDOT has formed a Stakeholder Advisory Group (SAG) for this project. A SAG is a group of individuals representing local government, businesses, transit, and other interested agencies and organizations. These individuals have direct knowledge of the corridor, business concerns, congestion, mobility, and freight issues. SAG members provide critical guidance, advice, and recommendations to WSDOT to help select a preferred design.

Community briefings

WSDOT held six community briefings in March and April 2019 to update community groups on the project and get their feedback on the design proposals. Community briefings were held with Camp Waskowitz, City of Snoqualmie Economic Development Council, City of North Bend Merchants Association, Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce, Snoqualmie Ridge neighborhood and the Historic Downtown Snoqualmie Merchants Association.

Open houses

In April 2019, WSDOT hosted two in-person open houses and an online open house to present designs for the new I-90/SR18 interchange, widening SR 18 to Deep Creek and building a new weigh/inspection station on eastbound I-90.

These open houses provided community members and others an opportunity to learn about and give feedback on designs to improve traffic and safety at the I-90/SR 18 interchange and the SR 18 corridor. We thank everyone who participated in the open houses.
