Needs & benefits

Beginning between 2022/23, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin work to remove and replace the aging East Fork Lewis River Bridge located on northbound Interstate 5, at milepost 18.21 - approximately 3 miles south of Woodland, in Clark County.

Built in 1936, the existing 84-year-old steel truss bridge currently carries over 38,000 vehicles a day; nearly 18% being large commercial freight vehicles. Maintaining this vital connection helps to keep people, freight and goods moving along the interstate.

Why is WSDOT replacing the East Fork Lewis River Bridge?

Listed as structurally deficient, this 84-year old steel truss bridge is in need of replacement. When construction begins, the project limits will span between mileposts 17.2 to 19.0.

The End Result

Once complete, the new bridge will provide users of I-5, a safe and structurally sound bridge over the East Fork of Lewis River, and meets current engineering and safety standards.

Needs & Benefits

A new bridge will provide reliable transportation connection on I-5, in southwest Washington - keeping people, freight and goods moving along the interstate.
