Work will take place between 96th Street East and Orville Road

ORTING – Work to improve sidewalk access and provide a smooth ride for all travelers on State Route 162 in Orting begins this month and will continue into August.

Starting Monday, July 13, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin rebuilding sidewalks and ramps at eight intersections along the highway to improve access for all in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The work will take place during daytime hours. Daytime shoulder closures and signed pedestrian detours will be in place.

In August, crews will remove and replace almost 6 miles of worn asphalt on both directions of SR 162. This work requires crews to close one lane during overnight hours. Alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will be in place through the work zones.

Single lane closures may be in place each weeknight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day.

Travelers are encouraged to watch their speeds and give crews the room they need to work.
