Cooler, wetter weather postpones second phase of installation

MARYSVILLE – With the forecast quickly changing, work on the single-lane roundabout at State Route 9 and 108th Street Northeast in Marysville will be suspended later this month. During a weekend closure in late September, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation were able to prepare the intersection for the heavy lift needed to complete this safety improvement project.

2019 accomplishments

During the intersection closure the weekend of Sept. 28-30, contractor crews:

  • Ground down a 4-foot hill blocking eastbound travelers’ view of the intersection.
  • Completed paving the west side approach of 108th Street Northeast.
  • Installed drainage pipes and culverts along both sides of SR 9, under 108th Street Northeast.
  • Widened and paved all four corners of the intersection in preparation for roundabout installation.

What’s next

The project will likely resume spring 2020 when consistently warm and dry weather returns. At that time, the second weekend closure for installation of the roundabout will be scheduled.
