EPHRATA – A dozen collisions in five years at the intersection of Dodson Road Northwest/A Street Southeast and State Route 282 prompted the Washington State Department of Transportation to consider adding a single-lane roundabout at that location.

People can comment on the proposal at an open house starting at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Ephrata City Hall. The informal event provides community members with the opportunity to see designs and other displays and to talk with project team members, as well as to provide comments.

Traffic on US 282 is not required to stop at the intersection, while cross traffic has stop signs. Washington State Patrol records show from January 2013 through December 2017 there were 12 collisions at the intersection, with five resulting in injuries. Every day an average of 12,300 vehicles use the intersection. About 77 percent of the traffic at this intersection is traveling on SR 282., Improvements are designed to provide better and safer access for drivers on Dodson Road Northwest or A Street Southeast getting on, off or across SR 282.

Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Dodson Road Northwest/A Street Southeast and SR 282 could begin as early as this spring.
