Washington State has a rich and diverse cultural heritage dating back thousands of years. The Cultural Resources program works with federal and state agencies, tribal governments, the Washington State Historic Preservation Officer, and other interested parties to balance the state’s transportation needs with protecting and preserving its cultural resources.
Cultural resources may include archaeological sites, historic buildings, roads and bridges, and places on the landscape of historical significance. We must identify and consider the effects of our projects on these non-renewable resources.
