Project overview
In summer 2026, contractor crews will repave nearly 11-miles of US 12 between the I-5 interchange at milepost 66.54 to milepost 77.47. This work also includes repairs to the overpass spanning across I-5, in Lewis County. Once this work is complete, travelers can expect a smoother, more reliable ride.
What to expect
Beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, and continuing weeknights from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
Travelers on both directions of US 12 between the I-5 interchange (milepost 66.5) and 0.5 miles east of Harms Road (milepost 77.4) should expect nighttime single-lane and ramp closures and reduced speed limits.
Flaggers will direct travelers to follow a pilot car through the work zone, and delays of up to 20 minutes should be expected. To help reduce delays and improve safety, most work will take place on weeknights when traffic is lighter. Some weekend nighttime lane and ramp closures may also be needed.
Bridge work
From 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, to 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16
- A single lane of US 12 over I-5 (milepost 66.5) will close nightly for bridge repairs. Travelers who need to cross the freeway will follow a signed detour.
In summer 2026, contractor crews will pave nearly 11-miles of US 12 between the I-5 interchange near milepost 66.54 and milepost 77.47, including the US 12 bridge over I-5, in Lewis County.
U.S. 12 is an important route for freight, local communities and visitors traveling through Lewis County. About 24,000 vehicles use this section of highway each day.
This project will improve nearly 11 miles of US 12 between the I-5 interchange near milepost 66.54 and milepost 77.47, including the US 12 bridge over I-5.
The roadway was last repaved in 2002 and has reached the end of its service life. The bridge over I-5 was built in 1958 and last resurfaced in 1984. Over time, weather, traffic and heavy freight use have caused the pavement, bridge deck and bridge joints to wear down.
To help preserve this important route, crews will:
- Repair damaged pavement and repave the roadway.
- Repair the bridge deck and replace aging waterproofing and expansion joints.
- Make minor bridge repairs to help extend the life of the structure.
- Upgrade curb ramps and pedestrian push buttons to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Once complete, the project will provide a smoother driving surface, help protect the bridge from water damage, improve accessibility and reduce future maintenance needs. These improvements will help keep U.S. 12 safe and reliable for years to come.
