Project overview
This project replaces the driving surface of the eastbound US 12 Heron Street Bridge in Aberdeen.
What to expect
The eastbound US 12 Heron Street Bridge will close around the clock to all travelers – including people who walk, roll or ride. The closure will last for up to 65 days.
During the closure, the westbound US 12 Wishkah River Bridge will be reconfigured to allow both directions of travel. Large trucks will have a signed detour via US 101 and State Route 107.
WSDOT encourages all travelers to add extra time to avoid delays.
The Heron Street Bridge will be unable to open to boats during construction.
During the closure, crews will remove and replace the driving surface of the bridge.
A preservation project to replace the driving surface on the eastbound US 12 Heron Street Bridge will help keep it in good working order for years to come.
Built in 1949, the eastbound US 12 Heron Street Bridge is 77 years old.
Currently, WSDOT assumes an average bridge service life of 80 years. Many bridges safely remain in service well beyond 80 years with proper maintenance and preservation efforts.
The driving surface of the bridge, called the grid deck, is at the end of its service life due to wear and tear. Replacement of the grid deck will help extend the life of the bridge.
