SR 546 - SR 539 to Fishtrap Creek - Paving With Exceptions

Project overview

This project will pave over two miles of eastbound and westbound State Route 546 from SR 539 (milepost 0.03) to Vinup Road (milepost 2.45), excluding previous fish passage areas at Depot Road (milepost 1.47) and Bender Road (milepost 2.01). Crews working for WSDOT will rehabilitate the existing roadway surface and update the roadway striping. Additionally, pedestrian curb ramps will be evaluated to determine if they meet current ADA accessibility requirements. This is an effort to rehabilitate the existing pavement, preserve the roadway surface. Additionally, this project is subject to WSDOT’s Complete Streets requirements. We will be working to incorporate as many active transportation facilities as feasible within the project delivery timelines.

What to expect

Contractor crews are scheduled to begin work in summer 2028 and end in fall 2028. Travelers can expect multiple nighttime single-lane closes with alternating traffic.

This project will rehabilitate over two miles of SR 546 in both directions from SR 539 to Vinup Road.

Nearly 11,000 vehicles travel SR 546 in this area daily. The pavement on in both directions of SR 546 is showing signs of deterioration. Crews working for WSDOT will grind and inlay the pavement for this roadway segment with Hot Mix Asphalt to rehabilitate the existing pavement and preserve the roadway surface.
