SR 282 Nat Washington Way - Safety Improvement

Project overview

This project installed a compact roundabout at the intersection of SR 282 and Nat Washington Way. This intersection was selected due to existing crash patterns.
This existing intersection has left- and right-turn lanes in each direction of SR 282. Installing a roundabout here significantly reduces the number of vehicle-conflict points in the existing intersection layout.

What to expect

WSDOT coordinated with the City of Ephrata and Grant County and other partners as part of community outreach. The County took the lead in this project, with the WSDOT overseeing and ensuring that the project was complete according to state standards.

As of February 2, 2026, the project is operational and complete, with the exception of the installation of new lights and signage.

In 2020, WSDOT performed a transportation study to identify improvements to the SR 282 highway near Ephrata. The study determined that the intersection of SR 282 and Nat Washington Way, a compact roundabout would increase the safety and mobility at the intersection, while reducing congestion.
