Project overview

This project will create a fourth truck climbing lane, or passing lane, for vehicles who travel along SR 26 between Dusty and Colfax in Whitman County. Three climbing lanes were constructed on this section of SR 26 between 2022 and 2023. What to expect

All work on the project is now completed with no further impacts.

The SR 26 corridor is a rural farm-to-market route and is also heavily utilized by Washington State University students, who travel between the campus in Pullman and Western Washington. Prior to 2022, there were no existing climbing (passing) lanes for drivers to use. The addition of truck climbing lanes addresses the platooning of vehicles behind slow-moving trucks. Once complete, this will mark the fourth climbing lane - two westbound and two eastbound between the town of Dusty and Colfax.
