SR 203 / NE 124th St to Skykomish River – Paving with Exceptions Project

From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings crews will alternate traffic with flaggers and pilot cars in sections between a nearly 11-mile stretch of SR 203, just south of Duvall to the Monroe city limits (mileposts 12.53 to 23.20).

Project overview

The Washington Department of Transportation will be working on a preservation project to repair and smooth the surface of State Route 203 between Duvall and Monroe. This work is necessary to prevent further and more expensive damage to the roadway.

The work covers a nearly 11-mile stretch of SR 203, from just south of Duvall to the Monroe city limits (Mileposts 12.53 to 23.20).

Crews will not be paving a section through the center of Duvall from mileposts 13.80 to MP 15.30.

What to expect

Work is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings beginning Monday, July 27. The work covers a nearly 11-mile stretch of SR 203, just south of Duvall to the Monroe city limits (mileposts 12.53 to 23.20). WSDOT anticipates 55 working days for this project. Throughout the project, one lane of SR 203 will be closed. Flaggers and pilot cars will direct alternating traffic through the remaining open lane. 

Most of this project will occur at night. However, the traveling public should expect two weekend single-lane closures for bridge repairs within the project limits. 

Work is expected to finish by Fall 2026, provided the weather cooperates.

State Route 203 serves as the primary link between Duvall and Monroe, carrying over 10,000 vehicles every day. The highway was last paved over 20 years ago in 2008, exceeding its 15-year life expectancy. This project is essential to maintain the road’s integrity and ensure long-term safety for all travelers.
