Project overview
Just east of the SR 202/SR 203 roundabout near Fall City, the Snoqualmie and Raging rivers join together next to SR 202. Major storms in December 2025 and March 2026 significantly eroded the riverbank at milepost 22. This project will rebuild the damaged road embankment by placing a mix of woody material, boulders, streambed mix and stone fragments to restore the roadside embankment to its original grade. Restoration will also include adding topsoil and compost layers and replanting native plants along the river. Construction, including final lane striping, is expected to finish in August 2026.
What to expect
Most of the construction will occur during two extended weekend closures from Thursday to Monday. During these two closures, both directions of SR 202 just east of the SR 202/SR 203 roundabout will fully close with significant detours that may add 45 minutes or more to commutes in the area. Dates for these closures will be released once they are scheduled.
Recreational river users may also be affected by this work, and portions of the Snoqualmie and Raging rivers may be closed during in-water construction work to keep the public safe while construction vehicles and cranes are used to repair the riverbank. Public river access and nearby boat launches may also be affected during this work.
Approximately six days of single-lane, alternating traffic closures will also be scheduled.
SR 202 connects SR 203 in Fall City to I-90 in Snoqualmie. It provides access to Fall City, Snoqualmie River and many businesses and recreational areas. This section of the highway averages about 9,700 cars daily, but traffic can vary widely during the seasons.
