SR 20/Olson Creek and Unnamed Tributary to Skagit River - Fish Passage - Completed Spring 2025

Project overview

Contractor crews working on behalf of WSDOT replaced the culvert crossings under State Route 20 at an unnamed tributary to Skagit River (milepost 94) and Olson Creek (milepost 105) in Marblemount. The old culverts were barriers to fish passage and were replaced with structures that will allow spawning fish to pass beneath SR 20.

This project is part of the Whatcom and Skagit counties' fish passage 2030 delivery plan (PDF 605KB).WSDOT has worked for many years to remove fish passage barriers. Twenty-one northwest Washington tribes asked the U.S. District Court to find that the State of Washington has a treaty-based duty to preserve fish runs.
