SR 164 - Pussyfoot Creek - Fish Passage - Complete October 2023

Project overview

This project built a bridge for SR 164 over Pussyfoot Creek on the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation east of Auburn. By removing the old culvert and creating a more natural stream channel, we opened up access to 9.3 miles of habitat for salmon and other fish.

What to expect

During construction, from July 12, 2021 to Oct. 14, 2021, SR 164 was closed to through traffic between Southeast 400th Street and 212th Avenue Southeast. Due to the complications of overabundant rainfall in late 2021, some of this work was rescheduled for 2022.

In summer 2022, drier conditions allowed crews to finalize utility, slope and landscaping work. Workers finished remaining punch list items by late 2022.

Replacing the old culvert under SR 164 with a bridge opens up an additional 9.3 miles of habitat for salmon and other fish that live in Pussyfoot Creek.
