Project overview
Starting in July 2026, contractor crews will repair pavement, replace guardrails and median barriers, and make repairs to both directions of I-5 from Rogers Road at milepost 56 to the SR 505 interchange at milepost 64 between the Cowlitz and Lewis county lines.
Once complete, this stretch of I-5 will be smoother, safer and more reliable for all travelers for years to come.
What to expect
Beginning Monday, Aug. 3, until further notice:
Travelers should expect weeknight single lane, double lane and ramp closures in both directions of I-5 between Rogers Road (milepost 56) and the SR 505 interchange (milepost 64) from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. for paving work. Reduced speed limits will be in place throughout the project area to help keep travelers and workers safe.
During construction, each of the 16 ramps in the project area will close at least twice. The northbound I-5 on-ramp at Exit 59 will remain closed for the duration of the project. A signed detour will direct travelers to use Exit 60.
When the project is complete, travelers will have a smoother ride and more reliable travel along this section of I-5.
In summer 2026, contractors will pave sections of I-5 from Rogers Road (milepost 56) to the SR 505 interchange (milepost 64), within the Cowlitz and Lewis county lines. Repaving the highway smooths the driving surface, reduces unexpected emergency closures for road repairs and extends the life of the highway.
This section of I-5 carries more than 42,000 vehicles each day and was originally built in the 1950s. A northbound lane for trucks between Exits 59 and 60 was added in 1979.
Just north of milepost 59, I-5 crosses the Cowlitz River, and near Exit 60, it crosses Lacamas Creek. The bridges over both waterways were built in 1953, with the Lacamas Creek Bridge later widened in 1976.
