2025 Olympic Region - Regionwide Paving Projects

Nighttime lane and ramp closures for pavement repair will take place on the following highways:

- Starting Monday, July 14 on SR 16, west of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Gig Harbor.
- Starting Thursday, July 17 on southbound I-5 near Plum St in Olympia.

Project overview

These paving projects will cover locations across seven communities in Kitsap, Mason, Thurston and Pierce counties. Crews will repave sections of damaged pavement on Interstate 5, US 101, state routes 3, 16, 410 and 512. Additional work includes permanent striping, drainage repair and sign updates.

Pavement preservation work will maintain the structural integrity of these sections of roadway for years to come.

What to expect

When construction begins in mid-July, highway users can expect overnight lane and ramp closures, Monday to Friday, in most locations. Dates for closures are updated by county below as schedules are confirmed.   

Kitsap/Pierce counties  

SR 16 – Gig Harbor to Burley:

  • Started Monday, July 14
  • 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day, Monday through Friday
  • 24th Street Northwest to Southeast Burley Olalla Road from milepost 8.41 to milepost 19.6 

Kitsap County  

SR 3 – Silverdale to Poulsbo:

  • SR 303 to south of Northwest Sherman Hills Road from milepost 46 to milepost 50 

Thurston County  

I-5 – Olympia:

  • Starting Thursday, July 17
  • 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, Monday through Friday
  • Starting on southbound north of Plum Street to south of Tumwater Boulevard from milepost 106.1 to milepost 101.2

I-5 – Tumwater:

  • North of Maytown Road to south of 93rd Avenue (SR 121) from milepost 95.7 to milepost 99.1 

 Thurston/Mason counties  

Northbound US 101 – Madrona Beach to Kamilche:

  • Skookum Creek Bridge to north of the SR 8 junction from milepost 353.8 to milepost 361.2 

Pierce County 

SR 512 – Puyallup:

  • West of Canyon Road to the SR 167 junction from milepost 3.1 to milepost 11.9 

SR 410 – Sumner to Bonney Lake:

  • SR 167 to Myers Road from milepost 8.8 to milepost 12.7
