Trainsets for sale

WSDOT is selling passenger rail cars previously used in Amtrak Cascades service. These Talgo Series VI cars are configured as two 12-car trainsets and three spare cars. They were manufactured in 1998 and are being sold "As Is” and “Where Is."

Each trainset includes:

  • Eight (8) passenger cars with a total of 240 seats and eight restrooms
  • One bistro/cafe car
  • One dining car with tables
  • One baggage car
  • One power car equipped with two diesel generators

The spare cars include one baggage car, one bistro car, and one power car.

This sale does NOT include locomotives.

Bidding process

These passenger rail cars will be sold through a bidding process that allows for bids on all 27 available cars or a portion the trainsets and/or spare cars.

Bids will be prioritized based on the total number of cars bid upon to maximize the number sold. Bids for all 27 available cars will be given initial preference. 

Potential bidders may view the trainsets by appointment at King Street Station in Seattle and the spare cars by appointment at Amtrak’s headquarters in Seattle between July 20 and July 31, 2020. Details on this process are included in the bid package.

Bids for the passenger rail cars must be submitted by August 3, 2020 using the bid form found in Exhibit E of the bid package.

The winning bidder will be announced in early September.
