In summer 2017, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will repave eight lane miles (between mileposts 134.28 and 142.32) of US 12 in Lewis County, between Packwood and White Pass.
Last paved in 2004, this stretch of highway is nearing the end of their useful life.
This project will preserve and extend the life of the asphalt, and provide a smoother ride for drivers.
Why is WSDOT resurfacing and repaving this stretch of US 12?
The existing pavement is showing signs of deterioration, such as cracking, potholing and rutting, throughout the traveled lanes and into the shoulders.
This work is necessary to preserve the highway, extend the life of the pavement, and reduce the need for costly emergency maintenance repairs.
What can drivers expect?
Drivers should expect daytime single-lane closures, with delays of up to 20 minutes.
The End Result
Rehabilitating this section of US 12 extends the life of the highway and reduces the need for emergency closures and repairs.
