Why is WSDOT Repaving US 101 through South Bend and adding curb ramps to the sidewalks?
The pavement on US 101 between D Street and Water Street is showing signs of wear and tear. To prevent additional damage and more costly emergency repairs, contractor crews will repave a nearly one-mile stretch of US 101.
Contractor crews will also upgrade sidewalk curb ramps at selected intersections by bringing the ADA features up to current standards, providing safe, easily accessible crosswalks for people of all abilities.
The End Result
Paving the road extends the life of the pavement and reduces the need for expensive and unplanned repairs.
The intersection will have new ADA curb ramps, and will provide safe street crossings for people of all abilities.
Preservation – Keeps the road in good working condition for several years.
Improves sidewalk crossings – Improving safety and accessibility for people using the sidewalk to cross the street.
The estimated cost of this project is $1.1 million
