SR 409 - Columbia River Bridge at Puget Island - Deck Replacement and Painting - Project map

SR 409 Puget Island deck replacement and painting

Originally built in 1938, the aging Julia Butler Hansen Bridge connects Puget Island to Cathlamet in Wahkiakum County.

The paint on the narrow 20-foot bridge is flaking and peeling away, exposing the steel to the elements, which results in rust and corrosion.

WSDOT will paint the bridge and also remove and replace several sections of worn asphalt and rotten timber piles that support the structure.
