Why is WSDOT repairing/rebuilding the highway?
Heavy rain saturated hillsides east of the Methow Valley causing flooding and mudslides first closing SR 153 between Twisp and Pateros. On Friday morning, April 7th, a small slide came in west of Loup Loup summit on SR 20. By the end of that day, several sections of SR 20 washed out, flooded or were buried under rock and debris. Many of the hillsides above the highway were burn scarred from two previous years of fires. Unusually heavy rain saturated the soil. (Lake Conconully, less than 10 miles north of Loup Loup has recorded 238% of normal runoff.)

The End Result
A functional highway between Twisp and Okanogan
