In 2018, contractor crews from Lakeside Industries repaved the stretch of State Route 20 Spur between Sharpes Corner and Commercial Avenue and between Commercial Avenue and the Anacortes Ferry Terminal. Prior to 2018, this highway was last paved about 20 years ago. The road was showing signs of wear and tear and there were cracks and potholes in places along the highway. There were also many highway crossing areas that didn't meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
This project preserved the infrastructure of the highway, reducing the need for costly emergency repairs and unexpected closures. This project also added room to the shoulder for people who bicycle this stretch and improved access for people of all abilities at nearly five dozen intersection crossing areas.
The cost of this project was $6.7 million.
