SR 20 - Collins Rd to SR 9 - Paving & ADA Compliance - Complete September 2017

Project news

  • This project is complete.
  • In 2018, WSDOT contractor crews will pave additional sections of SR 20 through Sedro-Woolley to continue to preserve highway lanes in this area.

To preserve the road and improve pedestrian access along SR 20 on the west edge of Sedro-Woolley between mileposts 62.97 and 64.82, WSDOT contractor crews will replace pavement and upgrade pedestrian crossings.

Why is WSDOT doing this work?
Repairing potholes, ruts and cracks before they damage the deeper layers of the road saves time and money. Fixing pedestrian crossings improves walkability and helps meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

What should drivers expect?
This is a short stretch of highway - from Collins Road near the hospital to the western stretch of SR 9.

Drivers should plan ahead for overnight construction and single lane closures as crews work to replace the pavement. There will be some short delays for drivers during that time as flaggers alternate travelers through the work zone. Pedestrians should expect daytime work and brief detours to the other side of the intersection. Much of this work is weather dependent.

WSDOT contractor crews will need to work closely with partners like the city and the railroad to balance access and projects.

Needs & Benefits

  • A preserved highway that is free of ruts, cracks and potholes.
  • A smoother ride for travelers.
  • Improved sidewalks and crosswalks for pedestrians.

The End Result
Travelers headed in or out of Sedro-Woolley on this two mile stretch will enjoy a safe and smooth trip.

Repaving this stretch will save money by preserving the highway and will help save time by avoiding most emergency closures and repairs.
