Overview
About 15 miles of Interstate 5 are getting a new layer of asphalt in the Marysville area. This project will repave an 8-mile stretch of southbound I-5 from just north of SR 531 to SR 529. Crews will also repave about 7 miles of northbound I-5 from SR 529 to just north of 136th Street Northeast. This project does not include any expansion joint replacement.
Why is WSDOT repaving 15 miles of I-5 in Marysville?
It has been more than 10 years since this stretch of highway was last paved, and the road is showing signs of wear and tear. There are cracks and ruts in many places along the highway that can lead to potholes. The project will extend the life of the highway and provide a smoother ride for the 162,000 vehicles that travel through this area every day.
The End Result
This project will improve driver safety, the ride quality of the highway and extend the life of the roadway. It will also reduce the potential for emergency closures and costly repairs.
