I-82 - Columbia River Bridge - Eastbound Deck Replacement

Project news

  • Due to the cold weather and additional repair work on the bridge, the eastbound bridge of I-82 will be complete in summer of 2019. Eastbound I-82 drivers should continue to use the detour route over the westbound bridge through the winter and spring.
  • The Columbia River Bridge on I-82 into Oregon is reduced to a single lane both eastbound and westbound. The speed limit is reduced to 40 miles per hour.

Needs & Benefits

The Washington State Department of Transportation is replacing the eastbound Columbia River Bridge deck to maintain the highway as a viable route entering and leaving Washington state. The last time significant repairs were made to the eastbound Columbia River Bridge was in 1990. This project will replace the bridge deck and restore the structural integrity of the bridge. The replaced bridge deck will ease mobility and reduce closures due to the pothole repair.

Summer 2017 - Construction begins
Summer 2019 - Scheduled completion

$10 million was allocated from the pre-existing funds for this project. The Oregon Department of Transportation is funding half the project.
