I-5 - New Bridge between I-5 and SR 411 - Complete September 2007

Overview
A new bridge was constructed across the Cowlitz River, from State Route 411 in Lexington to I-5 at the existing Ostrander Road interchange (Exit 42). The new bridge is known as the Lexington Bridge.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
The bridge improves emergency access to the Lexington area during flood events, as high water levels often restricted the use of routes to access the area.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
This bridge helps alleviate congestion on the existing bridges in the Longview/Kelso area. In addition, the new brige reduces travel times between the Lexington community and I-5.

Partnerships & Cooperation
Cowlitz County designed and constructed the project. However, since the new bridge connects a state route with an interstate and state funds were used in its construction, WSDOT worked closely with the county to oversee the project, recently completed in Sept. 2007.

Working with the public and Cowlitz County, WSDOT is committed to preserving the environment, and are making every effort to assess and minimize environmental impacts from their projects. The use of stormwater treatment and attenuation (reduction) facilities, coupled with other mitigation tools and advanced road and bridge design methods, will minimize the impacts of the bridge on the Cowlitz River, and local aquatic species and habitats.

At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
