LYNNWOOD – Drivers won’t have to look for a gap in traffic to turn from southbound State Route 525 to Alderwood Mall Parkway anymore. A new traffic signal went into service at that Lynnwood intersection early Friday morning, June 29, providing a controlled opening for drivers.

The new signal reduces the risk of collisions at the intersection by controlling when drivers can turn onto Alderwood Mall Parkway. Between 2011 and 2015, there were 32 collisions at the intersection. In addition to Alderwood mall’s presence, a Costco Wholesale opened south of the intersection in 2015, creating another attraction to the already busy area.

In addition to the signal, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation made several improvements to the intersection as part of the $1.2 million project:

  • Restriped the eastbound SR 525 off- and on-ramps, as well as Alderwood Mall Parkway through the intersection.
  • Added a crosswalk on the east side of the intersection.
  • Rebuilt two pedestrian ramps to provide a smoother transition between the sidewalks and cross walks.
