EPHRATA – People who use State Route 28 through Ephrata are invited to learn more about a highway safety improvement project starting this fall.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will host an open house on Wednesday, Aug. 2, to share information and answer questions about a new highway lane configuration designed to address rear-end collisions. On the south end of town, about 1.5 miles of SR 28, from Oasis Park to 18th Avenue SW, will be restriped to include two lanes with a two-way center turn lane for left-turning vehicles.

During the past five years, more than 30 collisions involving rear-end crashes into vehicles stopped to turn left into driveways and businesses have been recorded.
