SEATTLE – Drivers on westbound Interstate 90 will want to plan for another weekend of roadwork. Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, March 24, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation and Sound Transit will reduce westbound I-90 to one lane near Bellevue Way Southeast and reroute traffic to the express lanes until 5 a.m. Monday, March 27.

Drivers traveling to Seattle from the eastside of Lake Washington should plan for lengthy delays along Interstate 405, westbound State Route 520 and westbound I-90.

"We know this closure will have a major effect on many other Seattle-area highways," said WSDOT Traffic Engineer Mike Swires. "Even if your plans don't include traveling on I-90, drivers can help by carpooling, taking transit and checking their route before they leave the house."

The lane closures on I-90 will allow crews to continue work upgrading the operations and safety systems in the westbound Mount Baker and Mercer Island tunnels. This work is part of WSDOT's and Sound Transit's I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations project that adds around-the-clock HOV lanes to I-90.

Additional weekend work is scheduled for April 7-10 and 21-24 as well as May 5-8 and 12-15.
