Bicycle Permit Program

The Bicycle Permit Program was developed to promote bicycles as an alternative mode of transportation on Washington State Ferries. We recognize that bicycle commuting lessens traffic congestion, improves air quality and reduces our dependencies on fossil fuels.

Who can participate in the Bicycle Permit Program?
Anyone with a bicycle can participate in the program. We highly recommend the program for passengers who regularly travel with their bikes aboard the ferries. The more you participate in the program, the greater the savings.

What are the benefits of the Bicycle Permit Program?
Bicyclists enrolled in the program do not pay the bicycle surcharge at the toll booth.

In other words, a regular commuter who travels five days a week aboard the ferries with their bike can save $175 (annually) over the regular fare. The Bicycle Pass Program is not valid on the San Juan Island routes.

What Does It Cost and How do I Sign Up?
There is a $20 registration fee for each permit issued. You can register either online or through the mail. Online registration requires a credit card. To register through the mail payment must be made with a check or money order.

Your permit will be valid one year from the date of issue. Consider this if renewing prior to your current permit's expiration date.
