We work to improve connections between transit services and to improve the integration between public transportation and the highway system.
Has the following responsibilities as defined in state law:
- Create statewide strategic plan that creates common goals for transit agencies and reduces competing plans for cross-jurisdictional service
- Produce recommendations for public transportation in the Washington Transportation Plan.
- Improve the state's park and ride lot program
- Encourage long-range transit planning
- Participate in all aspects of corridor planning, including freight, ferry, and passenger rail planning
- Encourage coordination between regional transportation planning organizations and transit agencies
- Establish performance objectives and report quarterly results to the Secretary of Transportation
- Strengthen policies for including transit and TDM Strategies in route development plans, corridor plans, and budgets
- Review local and regional transportation plans for the adoption of common goals. The goals should reflect local direction and needs and consistency with the Growth Management Act
- Recommend best practices for integrating TDM Strategies and transit in regional and local land use plans to reduce traffic and improve mobility and access.
The Regional Mobility Grant Program will fund public transportation projects that reduce delay for people and goods on congested highways. Funding for the grant program includes $20 million in 2005–07 and $40 million in 2007–2009.
An advisory committee comprised of representatives from transit agencies, cities, counties, regional transportation planning organizations and the Washington State Commute Trip Reduction Task Force supports WSDOT.

State Laws governing the Office of Transit Mobility:
RCW 47.66.030 and 47.66.040; adding new sections to chapter 47.01 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 47.66 RCW; and creating new sections.
