Recognizing and retaining lessons learned benefits any process where experience plays an important role. WSDOT has developed a Internet-based lessons learned system that is an integral piece of the project delivery process. WSDOT will continue to assess developing an established transportation lessons learned that enhances project delivery.

The WSDOT Lessons Learned System was developed on the basis of users having the ability to store, search, and retrieve information quickly and easily. In addition, lesson information is tracked and evaluated for identification and possible implementation of best practices.

The database used to collect lesson information is accessible from the Internet. All users can submit and browse lessons.

The goal of the Lessons Learned System is not to simply have a computer database that stores information. The database is only a tool to support the sharing and communicating of what works and what does not for the purpose of improvement.
