Construction update
Last updated Nov. 6, 2009
Electrical line relocation (between S. Massachusetts Street and Railroad Way S.)
Crews have installed the new transmission and distribution lines into a new underground system to the east of the viaduct and removed the old lines from beneath the viaduct. We are testing the new lines and plan to have them operational within the next week or two.
Construction on this project began in September 2008. It is expected to be complete later this month. More information is available on the project page.
South end viaduct replacement (between S. Holgate Street and S. King Street)
Crews continue to replace utilities in preparation for road and bridge construction. During the next month they will install utility vaults and duct banks on Alaskan Way S., south of S. Atlantic Street. This part of the project is on schedule for completion early next year.
Road and bridge construction for the south end replacement is expected to begin in spring 2010. More information is available on the project page.
