Design Construction Impacts
The recent legislative approval to replace the floating bridge has resulted in an advancement of the construction schedule.  In order to meet the new schedule, a design-build contract combining the graving dock construction, final pontoon design, and pontoon construction is planned to be awarded in December 2009.  Opening of four-lanes of traffic on the floating bridge is planned for late 2014, with the full, six-lane configuration open in late 2016.  Completion of the corridor improvements west and east of the floating bridge is dependent upon the authorization of future, undetermined funding sources.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
The draft EIS for the construction of the pontoon site and four-lane configured pontoons is scheduled for late 2009.  The supplemental draft EIS for the full, six-lane construction of the floating bridge and westside corridor improvements (I-5 to the floating bridge) is scheduled for late 2009.

Impacts to Traffic
Traffic impacts in the corridor have not yet been fully determined.  Pontoons for the new floating bridge will be constructed offsite and brought in through the Ballard Locks.  The new floating bridge will be built to the north of the existing bridge allowing traffic to continue use the exisiting bridge during construction.
