SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Project

Project Description
The overall project will replace the SR 520 floating bridge and associated approaches. This project is currently funded to complete the environmental review, including an Environmental Impact Statement through the Record of Decision, early right-of-way acquisitions, and design.

Contractor/Consultant
Parametrix of Sumner, Washington is the prime consultant design engineer.

Recent Progress

Recent project accomplishments include:

EIS Phase

1. First drafts of all eighteen Discipline Reports now completed.  Six are completed through all reviews.

2. Executive and Technical Committee Meetings, Jurisdictional Staff and Community briefings.

3. Continue to meet with the City of Seattle and Regulatory Agency’s concerning the temporary detour bridge and work trestles proposed for bridge construction in the Arboretum.

4. Continue to meet with Sound Transit and King County Metro to discuss the opportunities for both projects to make better transit and pedestrian connections between SR520 and the ST North-Link Husky Stadium Station.

Early Right of Way Phase:

1. Purchase of the selected UW parcel for Right of Way Acquisition has been deferred due to the uncertainty in future funding and the pressing need to begin advance design work.  $4.0m is re-allocated to 05-07.

2.  Development of a project Record of Survey and New Right of Way Plans is progressing.

Design Construction Impacts

A Draft Environmental Impact Statement will be issued in June 2005.  A preferred alternative should be identified by Fall 2005.  Further stages of this project depend upon additional regional funding and tolling.  For estimated project construction costs for the project options under consideration visit the project web page above.

Environmental Impacts / Compliance
Environmental assessment and documentation is underway and on schedule.  Work remains within scope and budget.

Impacts to Traffic
Not yet fully determined.
