Construction of the SR 520 Floating Bridge and Landings Project took place in several locations. Assembling the bridge and connecting it to the rest of SR 520 happened between the west and east shores of Lake Washington in Seattle and Medina.
Construction activities for the new SR 520 floating bridge have taken place in four locations throughout the state.
The largest pontoons were towed from Grays Harbor to Lake Washington.
These pontoons were constructed in Aberdeen (A) as part of a separate contract. All 33 pontoons built in Aberdeen are on Lake Washington.
As shown in the map below, we built 44 supplemental stability pontoons in Tacoma (B). We also built bridge anchors and hundreds of precast roadway deck sections in Kenmore (C).
All of these components were floated to and assembled on Lake Washington (D) to form the new SR 520 floating bridge.
