US-2 - Chain Lake Road - N.Lewis Street (SR-203) Intersection Improvements

Overview
Construction of right-turn-only lanes for both eastbound and westbound traffic on US 2; second northbound thru lane and second left turn lane on Lewis Street (SR 203); and southbound right turn only lane and second left turn lane on Chain Lake Road. This project will require right-of-way acquisition and provides for intersection improvements including but not limited to signal modifications, overhead power relocation, retaining walls, new concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk, new pavement markings, storm drainage, new illumination and street trees and associated asphalt removal and replacement. The proposed sidewalk is a combined path for pedestrians and bicyclists which will provide the missing link between the residential area and the new North Kelsey Sub-Area Plan with downtown.

Why are we Building This Project?
This project expands vehicular capacity at a major intersection which will alleviate heavy congestion on the existing facility. This project will enhance communities and provide a reliable connection by constructing a multi-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists between residential and a new commerical center with the downtown shopping area. Future capacity needs will be met with the project because many alternatives were analysized to ensure the revised intersection can accommodate the projected capacity demands in 2025.
