I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations - Location Map

project map - I-90 from Rainier Avenue in Seattle across Lake Washington and Mercer Island to Bellevue Way in Bellevue
More than 125,000 vehicles travel on the I-90 outer roadways between Seattle and Bellevue on an average day.

The center roadway runs westbound in the mornings and eastbound in the evenings.  High occupancy vehicles traveling eastbound in the mornings and westbound in the evenings must use general-purpose lanes.  With this project, we will add HOV lanes for 24-hour use in both directions.

In 2004, 60 to 65 percent of buses heading from Bellevue to Seattle on I-90 during the evening rush hour were 2-14 minutes late.  The new outer-roadway HOV lanes will improve the speed and reliability of buses.
