Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: WSDOT uses the I-5 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

SB S 320th St to Duwamish River Br Concrete Pavement Rehab - #8816

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are rehabilitating southbound I-5 between the Duwamish River Bridge in Tukwila and South 320th Street in Federal Way.

  • Monday, July 17, to the morning of Friday, July 21 - Up to four lanes of southbound I-5 between Interurban Avenue South and SR 516 will be closed beginning with one lane at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen by noon daily. This work is weather dependent.
NB S 260th St to Duwamish River Br Concrete Pavement Rehab and ADA - #8992

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are rehabilitating northbound I-5 between South 260th Street in Des Moines and the Duwamish River Bridge in Tukwila.

  • Monday, July 17, to the morning of Friday, July 21 - Up to four lanes of northbound I-5 between SR 516 and Interurban Avenue South will be closed nightly beginning with the left lane at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
  • Monday, July 17, to the morning of Tuesday, July 18 - The South 200th Street/Military Road on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
  • Wednesday, July 19, to the morning of Thursday, July 20 - The South 188th Street/Orillia Road on- and off-ramps at northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
NB MLK Jr Way to NE Ravenna Br Pavement Repair - #8952

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing 37 expansion joints and large sections of concrete pavement on northbound I-5 between MLK Junior Way South/SR 900 in Tukwila and Northeast Ravenna Boulevard in Seattle.

  • Monday, July 17, to the morning of Wednesday, July 19 – Two left lanes of northbound I-5 between I-90 and the Washington State Convention Center will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, July 17, to the morning of Wednesday, July 19 – The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Seneca Street will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Wednesday, July 19, to the morning of Friday, July 21 – The left lane of northbound I-5 between the Washington State Convention Center and Mercer Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. nightly.
  • Wednesday, July 19, to the morning of Friday, July 21 – The University Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. nightly.
Seattle Maintenance Work

Description: WSDOT maintenance crews are repairing an attenuator and performing vegetation control on I-5 in Seattle.

  • Monday, July 17, to the morning of Tuesday, July 18 - The North 50th Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Tuesday, July 18, to the morning of Wednesday, July 19 - The HOV lane of southbound I-5 at the West Seattle Bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Wednesday, July 19, to the morning of Thursday, July 20 - The right lane of southbound I-5 at North 85th Street will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, July 20, to the morning of Friday, July 21 - The northbound I-5 exit to South Columbian Way will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Ship Canal Bridge Inspection Work

Description: WSDOT maintenance crews are performing FHWA inspection work on the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle.
Work schedule:

  • Saturday, July 29 - The right lane of northbound I-5 on the Ship Canal Bridge will be closed from 5 to 10 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 30 - The right lane of southbound I-5 on the Ship Canal Bridge will be closed from 5 to 10 a.m.
Mountlake Terrace Overhead Sign Work

Description: WSDOT Bridge crews will be replacing bracketry on the overhead signs on the 200th Street Southwest overpass over northbound I-5 in Mountlake Terrace.

  • Thursday, July 20, to the morning of Friday, July 21 – The two right lanes of northbound I-5 at 220th Street Southwest will be closed, starting with the far right lane at 10 p.m. Both lanes will reopen at 5:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 22, to the morning of Sunday, July 23 - The two right lanes of northbound I-5 at 220th Street Southwest will be closed, starting with the far right lane at 11 p.m. Both lanes will reopen at 7 a.m.
Everett Bridge Inspection Work

Description: WSDOT bridge crew will close lanes and ramps of northbound I-5 through Everett to inspect an overpass.

  • Saturday, July 22 – The two right lanes of northbound I-5 at 41st Street will be closed from 5 to 5:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 22 – The two left lanes of northbound I-5 at 41st Street will be closed from 5:30 to 6 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 22 – The ramp from northbound I-5 to Broadway will be closed from 6 to 9 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 23 – The two right lanes of southbound I-5 at 41st Street will be closed from 5 to 6 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 23 – The two left lanes of southbound I-5 at 41st Street will be closed from 6 to 7 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 23 – The ramp from 41st Street to southbound I-5 will be closed from 7 to 8 a.m.
Ebey Slough Bridge to SR 531 Interchange Paving and ADA Compliance - #9028

Description: About 15 miles of I-5 is getting a new layer of asphalt in the Marysville area during the summer of 2017. This project will repave an 8-mile stretch of southbound I-5 from just north of SR 531 to SR 529. Crews will also repave about 7 miles of northbound I-5 from SR 529 to just north of 136th Street Northeast.

  • Sunday, July 16, to the morning of Wednesday, July 19 – The two right lanes of northbound I-5 between the 88th Street Northeast and the State Route 531 Interchange will be closed, starting with the far left lane at 8 p.m. nightly. Both lanes will reopen by 9 a.m.

NB SR 531 Vic to Stillaguamish River Vic Paving and ADA Compliance - #8825

Description: WSDOT contractor crews repaved 2.6 miles of cracked and rutted asphalt on northbound I-5 between SR 531 and the Stillaguamish River Bridge. The on- and off-ramps at SR 530 and the Smokey Point Rest Area on-ramp to southbound I-5 were also repaved. We are now performing grinding and updating drainage markings.

Fisher Creek Fish Passage - #8840

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are removing a culvert, building twin 110-foot-long bridges and rebuilding the creek bed to a more natural state to allow for better fish passage.

  • Monday, July 17 until Friday, July 21 - Crews will begin removing the median bypass lane. Once that work is finished, they will be able to safely open the left lane.
  • Until further notice - Northbound I-5 traffic is using the new bridge over Fisher Creek just past Starbird Road. The left lane is closed until further notice and the speed limit is reduced to 60 mph.
Hill Ditch Bridge to Joe Leary Slough Paving - #8863

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are repaving sections in both directions of I-5 between Starbird Way and SR 11/Chuckanut Drive in Skagit County. The seven on-and-off-ramps in this stretch are included in the work zone.

Nooksack River Bridge Inspection

  • Thursday, July 27 - The right lane of northbound I-5 over the Nooksack River Bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  • Friday, July 28 - The left lane of northbound I-5 over the Nooksack River Bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon.
