Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Highway: I-5    Region: Northwest    County: King    Location: Milepost(s) 165.29 - 172.43

Description: WSDOT uses the I-5 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

Work schedule:

  • Sunday, Dec. 11 – The I-5 express lanes will close at 6 a.m. for the Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk for Arthritis. The lanes will open southbound by 11 a.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 25, to Monday, Dec. 26 – The I-5 express lanes will operate on the weekend schedule for the Christmas holiday.
  • Saturday, Dec. 31, to the morning of Sunday, Jan. 1 – The I-5 express lanes will remain open northbound until 7:30 a.m. Sunday for the New Year holiday. The lanes will open southbound by 8 a.m.
  • Sunday, Jan. 1, to Monday, Jan. 2 – The I-5 express lanes will operate on the weekend schedule for the New Year holiday.
SB S 320th St to Duwamish River Br Concrete Pavement Rehab - #8816

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are rehabilitating southbound I-5 between the Duwamish River Bridge in Tukwila and South 320th Street in Federal Way.

Work schedule:

  • Monday, Dec. 5, to the morning of Sunday, Dec. 11 - Up to four lanes of southbound I-5 between South Boeing Access Road and South 188th Street will be closed nightly beginning with one lane at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen by noon. This work is weather dependent.
  • Monday, Dec. 5, to the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 7 - The South 188th Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. A signed detour will be in place. This work is weather dependent.
  • Thursday, Dec. 8, to the morning of Friday, Dec. 9 – The right lane of the eastbound SR 599 ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
  • Thursday, Dec. 8, to the morning of Saturday, Dec. 10 – The southbound I-5 off-ramp to Interurban Avenue South will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. A signed detour will be in place. This work is weather dependent.
NW Region Guardrail & Glarescreen - #8923

Everett Guardrail Repair Work

Description: WSDOT maintenance crews are repairing two guardrails on the ramps between I-5 and US 2 in Everett.
Work schedule:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 7 to the morning of Thursday, Dec. 8 – The westbound US 2 ramp to southbound I-5 in Everett will be closed from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 14 to the morning of Thursday, Dec. 15 – The southbound I-5 ramp to eastbound US 2 in Everett will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
116th Street NE Interchange Improvements - Tulalip Tribes Project

Description: Tulalip Tribes contractor crews are replacing the I-5/116th Street Northeast interchange near Marysville to reduce congestion and provide more capacity.

Fisher Creek - Fish Passage - #8840

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are removing a culvert, building twin 110-foot-long bridges and rebuilding the creek bed to a more natural state to allow for better fish passage.

  • Until further notice Southbound I-5 from SR 534 to Starbird Road is reduced to two lanes with a speed limit of 60 mph and being diverted onto a temporary bypass on the median.
Hill Ditch Bridge to Joe Leary Slough Paving - #8863

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are repaving sections in both directions of I-5 between Cameron Way in Mount Vernon and Chuckanut Drive/SR 11 in Burlington, along with seven on- and off-ramps.
