Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: WSDOT uses the I-5 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

Work schedule:

  • Friday, June 30 - The I-5 express lanes will remain in the northbound direction until 5 a.m. Saturday morning due to maintenance work. The lanes will open southbound on the normal weekend schedule.
  • Tuesday, July 4 - The I-5 express lanes will remain in the northbound direction until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning due to maintenance work. The lanes will open southbound on the normal weekday schedule.
  • Friday, July 7 - The northbound I-5 express lanes will close at 11 p.m. then open southbound by 11:59 p.m. due to maintenance work. The lanes will remain southbound through the normal Saturday schedule.
  • Saturday, July 15 - The southbound I-5 express lanes will be closed from 8 to 11 a.m. for maintenance work.
  • Sunday, July 16 - The southbound I-5 express lanes will be closed from 8 to 11 a.m. for maintenance work.
SB S 320th St to Duwamish River Br Concrete Pavement Rehab - #8816

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are rehabilitating southbound I-5 between the Duwamish River Bridge in Tukwila and South 320th Street in Federal Way.

  • Monday, June 26, to the morning of Friday, June 30 - Three lanes of southbound I-5 between Interurban Avenue South and SR 516 will be closed beginning with one lane at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen by noon daily. This work is weather dependent.
  • Wednesday, June 28, to the morning of Friday, June 30 - The South 188th Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Wednesday, June 28, to the morning of Friday, June 30 - The southbound I-5 off-ramp to South 200th Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Thursday, June 29, to the morning of Friday, June 30 - The South 200th Street/Military Road on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
NB S 260th St to Duwamish River Br Concrete Pavement Rehab and ADA - #8992

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are rehabilitating northbound I-5 between South 260th Street in Des Moines and the Duwamish River Bridge in Tukwila.

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, June 23, to the morning of Monday, June 26 - Northbound I-5 traffic will be reduced to two lanes between SR 516 and Southcenter Boulevard from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, June 23, to the morning of Monday, June 26 - The east and westbound SR 516 on-ramps to northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, June 23, to the morning of Monday, June 26 - The South 200th Street/Military Road on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • Friday, June 23, to the morning of Saturday, June 24 - The HOV lane of southbound I-5 at SR 516 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Saturday, June 24, to the morning of Sunday, June 25 - The HOV lane of southbound I-5 at SR 516 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Monday, June 26, to the morning of Friday, June 30 - Up to four lanes of northbound I-5 between SR 516 and Interurban Avenue South will be closed nightly beginning with the left lane at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Monday, June 26, to the morning of Friday, June 30 - The westbound SR 516 on- and off-ramps at northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
S 200th St / Military Rd Intersection Improvements - #8883

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are improving the intersection where the southbound I-5 off- and on-ramps meet South 200th Street and Military Road South in SeaTac.

Seattle Guardrail Repair Work

Seattle Fire Testing Work

Description: WSDOT maintenance crews are performing fire detection testing and annual inspection on I-5 underneath the Convention Center in Seattle.

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Thursday, June 29, to the morning of Saturday, July 1 - Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between James Street and Mercer Street will be closed nightly beginning with one lane at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
  • Thursday, June 29, to the morning of Friday, June 30 - The University Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Friday, June 30, to the morning of Saturday, July 1 - The Cherry Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, July 7, to the morning of Saturday, July 8 - All lanes of southbound I-5 between Stewart Street and I-90 will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic will be detoured onto the city streets.
  • Friday, July 7, to the morning of Saturday, July 8 - The Mercer Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Friday, July 7, to the morning of Saturday, July 8 - The Yale Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Ebey Slough Bridge to SR 531 Interchange Paving and ADA Compliance - #9028

Description: About 15 miles of I-5 is getting a new layer of asphalt in the Marysville area during the summer of 2017. This project will repave an 8-mile stretch of southbound I-5 from just north of SR 531 to SR 529. Crews will also repave about 7 miles of northbound I-5 from SR 529 to just north of 136th Street Northeast.

  • Monday, June 26, to the morning of Friday, June 30 – The two left lanes of northbound I-5 between the Ebey Slough Bridge and the SR 531 interchange will be closed, starting with the far right lane at 8 p.m. nightly. Both lanes will reopen by 9 a.m.
Stanwood to Conway Maintenance Work

Description: WSDOT maintenance crews are working with contractor crews to improve the pavement along I-5.

  • Monday, June 26 to Friday, June 30 - The right lane in both directions of I-5 between SR 532/Stanwood-Bryant Road and SR 534/Conway will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Fisher Creek Fish Passage - #8840

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are removing a culvert, building twin 110-foot-long bridges and rebuilding the creek bed to a more natural state to allow for better fish passage.

  • Until further notice - Northbound I-5 traffic is using the new bridge over Fisher Creek just past Starbird Road. The left lane is closed until further notice and the speed limit is reduced to 60 mph.
Hill Ditch Bridge to Joe Leary Slough Paving - #8863

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are repaving sections in both directions of I-5 between Starbird Way and SR 11/Chuckanut Drive in Skagit County. The seven on-and-off-ramps in this stretch are included in the work zone.

  • Sunday, June 25, to the morning of Friday, June 30 - Contractor crews will close the right lane of I-5 and some ramps in both directions from Starbird Road (milepost 218) and SR 11/Chuckanut Drive (milepost 231) between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly to restripe and install rumble strips along the highway.

  • Thursday, July 27 - The right lane of northbound I-5 over the Nooksack River Bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for bridge inspection.
  • Friday, July 28 - The left lane of northbound I-5 over the Nooksack River Bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. until noon for bridge inspection.
