Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: The I-5 express lanes are used to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

  • Monday, July 23, to Thursday, July 26 - The 9th and Pike Street on-ramp to the northbound I-5 express lanes will close at 9 p.m. nightly for Washington State Convention Center construction work.
  • Friday, July 27, to Saturday, July 28 - The northbound I-5 express lanes will close at 9:30 p.m. and open in the southbound direction by 10 p.m. through the overnight hours into the normal weekend schedule.
NB S 260th St to Duwamish River Br Concrete Pavement Rehab & ADA - #8992

  • Monday, July 23, to the morning of Friday, July 27 - Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between South 216th Street/Military Road and the I-405/SR 518 interchange will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. nightly. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
  • Monday, July 23, to the morning of Tuesday, July 24 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound SR 599 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. This work is weather dependent.
S 188th St to NE 80th St Camera Installation - #9147

  • Monday, July 23, to the morning of Friday, July 27 – The Northeast Ravenna Boulevard on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. This work is weather dependent.
  • Monday, July 23, to the morning of Wednesday, July 25 – The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Olive Way will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, July 23, to the morning of Wednesday, July 25 – The Olive Way on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, July 23, to the morning of Wednesday, July 25 – The Cherry Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

SB S Lucile St to Spring St Pavement Repair & ADA Compliance - #9235

Express Lanes Entrances Electronic Sign Replacement - #9272

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are replacing the sign structures and brackets, along with the electrical and fiber optic systems at seven entrances to the I-5 express lanes. A few of the sign structures will also be redesigned to create a better viewing angle.

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Saturday, July 21 - Northbound I-5 traffic will be reduced to one lane between Cherry Street and Olive Way from 12:30 to 5:30 a.m.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, July 27, to the morning of Saturday, July 28 - All lanes of southbound I-5 between Stewart Street and Spring Street will be closed from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Ship Canal Bridge Deck Repair Work

Stanwood to Mount Vernon Area: Northwest Washington Cable Barrier Upgrades - #9144

Description: WSDOT contractor crews from Petersen Brothers are upgrading nearly 40 miles of median cable barrier on six different highways in four different counties. Work on each stretch will take about two weeks and the contractor will complete one section before moving on to the next. Neighbors living near the work zones will hear a drill rig, which often sounds like a vehicle revving its engine, drilling, clunking and thudding as bases and posts are put into place. If you have noise complaints about this project, call the toll-free noise hotline at 1-888-808-4DOT (4368).

  • Wednesday, July 25 to the morning of Friday, July 27 - Crews will close the left two lanes of southbound I-5 at the Skagit/Snohomish county line and south of SR 534 nightly from 10 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for cable barrier work and emergency access paving.

Work schedule:

  • Saturday, July 28, to the morning of Sunday, July 29 - Crews will close the right lane of southbound I-5 near Samish Way from 5 p.m. to 11 a.m. for concrete panel repair work. This work does require concrete curing time where it will appear no work is being done. The reopening time could change depending on weather conditions and how well the concrete is curing.
