Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: WSDOT uses the I-5 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

Work schedule:

  • Sunday, Dec. 10 - The I-5 express lanes will remain closed until 10:45 a.m. for the Jingle Bell Run. The lanes will open southbound after the closure.
  • Monday, Dec. 25 - The I-5 express lanes will operate on the weekend schedule for the Christmas holiday.
  • Sunday, Dec. 31, to the morning of Monday, Jan. 1 - The I-5 express lanes will remain open in the northbound direction during the overnight hours for the New Years Eve holiday. The lanes will open southbound at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
  • Monday, Jan. 1 - The I-5 express lanes will operate on the weekend schedule for the New Years holiday.
NB S 260th St to Duwamish River Br Concrete Pavement Rehab and ADA - #8992

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are rehabilitating northbound I-5 between South 260th Street in Des Moines and the Duwamish River Bridge in Tukwila.

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, Dec. 8, to the morning of Saturday, Dec. 9 - The four left lanes of northbound I-5 between Southcenter Boulevard and the Duwamish River Bridge will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Saturday, Dec. 9, to the morning of Sunday, Dec. 10 - Three right lanes of northbound I-5 between Southcenter Boulevard and the Duwamish River Bridge will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 9, to the morning of Sunday, Dec. 10 - The southbound I-405 HOV off-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 9, to the morning of Sunday, Dec. 10 - The Southcenter Boulevard on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 9, to the morning of Sunday, Dec. 10 - The Interurban Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Monday, Dec. 11, to the morning of Friday, Dec. 15 - Up to four lanes of northbound I-5 between SR 516 and the I-405/SR 518 interchange will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. nightly. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. daily. This work is weather dependent.
  • Monday, Dec. 11, to the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 13 - The South 200th Street/Military Road on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Monday, Dec. 11, to the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 13 - The northbound I-5 off-ramp to South 188th Street/Orillia Road will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 13, to the morning of Thursday, Dec. 14 - The South 188th Street/Orillia Road on-ramp to northbound I-5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 10, to the morning of Monday, Dec. 11 - A single lane of southbound I-5 across the Ship Canal Bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Monday, Dec. 11, to the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 12 - A single lane of northbound I-5 across the Ship Canal Bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Et Al 5th Ave Vic to I-5 Paving, ADA Compliance & Expansion Joints - #9053

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are grinding and repaving SR 526/Boeing Freeway in Everett from west of Evergreen Way to Southeast Everett Mall Way.

Ebey Slough Bridge to SR 531 Interchange Paving and ADA Compliance - #9028

Description: About 15 miles of I-5 is getting a new layer of asphalt in the Marysville area during the summer of 2017. This project will repave an 8-mile stretch of southbound I-5 from just north of SR 531 to SR 529. Crews will also repave about 7 miles of northbound I-5 from SR 529 to just north of 136th Street Northeast.

Fisher Creek Fish Passage - #8840

Description: WSDOT contractor crews are removing a culvert, building twin 110-foot-long bridges and rebuilding the creek bed to a more natural state to allow for better fish passage.

WSDOT Slab Stabilization - Burlington

Description: WSDOT maintenance crews will be stabilizing concrete slabs in the southbound I-5 to SR 20 off and SR 20 to southbound I-5 on-ramps.
Work schedule:

  • Friday, Dec. 15 to the morning of Sunday, Dec. 17 - Maintenance crews will close the southbound I-5 to SR 20 off-ramp nightly from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. for slab stabilization. Travelers should use exit 229 back to northbound I-5 to SR 20 to detour around this work, which is weather dependent.
  • Friday, Dec. 15 to the morning of Sunday, Dec. 17 - Maintenance crews will close the SR 20 on-ramp to southbound I-5 nightly from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. for slab stabilization. Travelers should use Nevitt Road to Goldenrod Road to George Hopper Road to detour around this work, which is weather dependent.
WSDOT Guardrail Repair - Alger

Description: WSDOT maintenance crews will be repairing guardrail that crashes damaged the week of Dec. 3.
Work schedule:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 12 - Maintenance crews will close the right lane of southbound I-5 just south of SR 11/Old Fairhaven Parkway from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. for guardrail repair.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 13 and Thursday, Dec. 14- Maintenance crews will close the left lane of northbound I-5 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. north of Nulle Road/the Skagit County line for guardrail repair.
