Express Lanes Schedule Changes

Description: WSDOT uses the I-90 express lanes to assist the flow of traffic during busy travel times. These lanes are scheduled to move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion from the transportation system.

Work schedule:

  • Saturday, May 27 – The eastbound I-90 express lanes will close at 6 a.m. then open westbound by 7 a.m. for a Seattle Sounders soccer match. The lanes will remain in the westbound direction until 3 a.m. Sunday, May 28.
  • Sunday, May 28, to Tuesday, May 30 - The westbound I-90 express lanes will close at 3 a.m. for the Emerald City Bike Ride. The lanes will open westbound by 1 p.m. and will remain in the westbound direction until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, due to the Memorial Day holiday.
  • The weekend of June 3 - The I-90 express lanes will permanently close to allow construction of Sound Transit's East Link light rail extension from Seattle to Redmond.
Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations (Stage 3) - #8662

Description: WSDOT and Sound Transit contractor crews are adding HOV lanes to both directions of I-90 between Seattle and Bellevue and preparing the center roadway for East Link light rail.

  • Until Further Notice – Flammable cargo is prohibited from traveling in both directions of I-90 inside the Mount Baker and Mercer Island Lid tunnels until further notice.
  • Tuesday, May 30, to the morning of Wednesday, May 31 – Two left lanes of eastbound I-90 at Island Crest Way will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Wednesday, May 31, to the morning of Friday, June 2 – Two lanes of eastbound I-90 between Rainier Avenue South and the Mount Baker Tunnel will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Wednesday, May 31, to the morning of Friday, June 2 – The Rainier Avenue South on-ramp to eastbound I-90 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • Wednesday, May 31, to the morning of Friday, June 2 – Two lanes of eastbound I-90 inside the Mount Baker Tunnel will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Friday, June 2, to the morning of Saturday, June 3 – Eastbound I-90 traffic will be reduced to one lane near Rainier Avenue South and routed to the express lanes from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • **HIGH IMPACT** Saturday, June 3, to the morning of Sunday, June 4 – Westbound I-90 traffic will be reduced to one lane near Bellevue Way and routed to the express lanes from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
N Fork Issaquah Creek Fish Passage - #9040

  • Saturday, May 27, to the morning of Sunday, May 28 - A single lane of northbound East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast between the westbound I-90 off- and on-ramps and 229th Avenue Southeast will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Sunday, May 28, to the morning of Monday, May 29 - A single lane of northbound East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast between the westbound I-90 off- and on-ramps and 229th Avenue Southeast will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

West Approach Bridge North - #8625

Description: The West Approach Bridge North Project is the latest phase of construction of the SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program and will extend SR 520's three westbound lanes from the new floating bridge to the Montlake area in Seattle.

  • Tuesday, May 30, to the morning of Friday, June 2 - Two right lanes of westbound SR 520 on the floating bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly.
  • Thursday, June 2 – The southbound SR 513/Montlake Boulevard on-ramp to westbound SR 520 will be closed from 1 to 4 a.m. This work is weather dependent.

Description: The Emerald City Bike Ride event is closing eastbound SR 520 between Seattle and Bellevue.
Work schedule:

  • **HIGH IMPACT** Sunday, May 28 - All lanes of eastbound SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and 84th Avenue Northeast will be closed from 5:15 to 10:45 a.m.
  • Sunday, May 28 - The southbound SR 513/Montlake Boulevard on-ramp to westbound SR 520 will be closed from 5:15 to 10 a.m.
  • Sunday, May 28 - The southbound SR 513/Montlake Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound SR 520 will be closed from 5:15 to 10 a.m.
Evergreen Point Floating Bridge and Landings Project - #8066
