Weekly update of construction closures in Downtown Seattle and SODO

This webpage contains information about WSDOT construction projects affecting vehicle or pedestrian traffic on I-5, SR 99, I-5/I-90 interchange, SR 519 and city streets through downtown Seattle and SODO. The information on this page could change without notice.

Regional High-Impact Closures

WSDOT: SR 99 North Access Project

  • Monday, March 9 - All lanes of northbound SR 99 between the south end of the Battery Street Tunnel and Valley Street will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Beginning Tuesday, March 10, until further notice - One median lane in each direction of SR 99 between Valley Street and the Aurora Bridge will be closed around-the-clock.  This work is anticipated to impact northbound lanes of SR 99 for approximately eight weeks.  It is anticipated to impact southbound lanes of SR 99 for approximately 12 weeks.
  • Also beginning Tuesday, March 10, until further notice - Crews may close an additional lane in each direction between Valley Street and the Aurora Bridge nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.  This closure of an additional lane may also occur during some weekend days. 
  • One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.

WSDOT: SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Project

  • Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15 - All lanes of westbound SR 520 between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

 

North End Closures

WSDOT:
SR 99 Tunnel Project 

  • Long-term closure - Sixth Avenue North is closed between Thomas and Republican streets. Sixth Avenue North will reopen in a new configuration after the SR 99 tunnel opens to traffic.
  • Long-term closure - Harrison Street is closed from Aurora Avenue North to Taylor Avenue North.  The street will reopen after the tunnel opens to traffic. 
  • Long-term closure - Republican Street is closed between Aurora Avenue North and Sixth Avenue North.

WSDOT:
SR 99 North Access Project

  • Until further notice - Republican Street from SR 99 and the alley between Dexter Avenue North and Eighth Avenue North will be closed around the clock.
    • Monday, March 9 - All lanes of northbound SR 99 between the south end of the Battery Street Tunnel and Valley Street will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • Beginning Tuesday, March 10, until further notice - One median lane in each direction of SR 99 between Valley Street and the Aurora Bridge will be closed around-the-clock. This work is anticipated to impact northbound lanes of SR 99 for approximately eight weeks. It is anticipated to impact southbound lanes of SR 99 for approximately 12 weeks.

Central Waterfront Closures

  • Parking beneath the viaduct is permanently closed between South King Street and Virginia Street due to tunnel and Elliott Bay Seawall construction.

  • No high-impact closures are scheduled at this time.

Regional Closures

WSDOT: SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Project

  • Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15 - All lanes of westbound SR 520 between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

WSDOT: I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV

  • Beginning Tuesday, March 3 - The eastbound I-90 HOV ramp to I-405 will be closed around the clock for 50 continuous days.
  • Saturday, March 7 - The eastbound I-90 exit to Richards Road will be closed from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m.

  • No high-impact closures are scheduled at this time.

WSDOT Maintenance

  • Friday, March 6 – The northbound HOV lanes of I-5 between Corson and Spokane streets will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.
  • Saturday, March 7 – The two right lanes of northbound SR 99 at the 1st Avenue South Bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon.
  • Saturday, March 7 - The northbound HOV lanes of I-5 between Holgate and Yesler will be closed from 8 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.
  • Sunday, March 8 – The three right lanes of northbound I-5 between Spokane Street and I-90 will be closed 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.
  • Sunday, March 8 – The ramp at northbound I-5 from Edgar Martinez Drive will be closed from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • Thursday, March 12 – SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and 92nd Avenue Northeast will be closed intermittently for up to 30 minutes from midnight to 5 a.m. Friday.

  • Monday, March 9 - I-90 Express Lanes will be closed between Seattle and Bellevue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
